Remake Learning

UCASD represented Northwestern PA and the IU5 region with this Remake Learning Day/Career Ready PA Backpack Challenge Mega Event on Wednesday, May 22 right here on our campus, engaging more than 300 elementary and middle school students, faculty/staff, parents/guardians, outside providers, and community members over the course of the day, while we:

  • Planted sunflowers in a new sunflower garden with our agriculture students

  • Signed a commemorative sunflower signature poster made by our middle school art students

  • Learned how to grow and care for sunflowers from our Ag students

  • Received complimentary packs of wildflower seeds and instructions for growing from Ernst Seeds for their own at-home gardens along with a Common Species Found in our Pollinator Mixes handout

  • Learned about the commercial uses, benefits, and environmental impacts of sunflowers through the All About Sunflowers brochure created by UCASD student Makayla Hedderick

  • Learned about our agriculture program and FFA at UCASD

  • Met a member of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, who had lunch and chatted with our high school Ag students/FFA members and participated in all of the fun!

  • Learned about careers in at the agriculture field from our friends at Ernst Seeds

  • Created a pinecone bird feeder with the Presque Isle Audubon Society and learned about the Friends of Sunflowers through a resource handout

  • Submitted digital artifacts for the Career Ready PA backpack challenge, earning us accolades from PDE as one of only THIRTY schools in the state to earn more than 100 badges in one day!

  • Played and learned outside TOGETHER with parents, guardians, mentor students, teachers, staff, and community members!
