We are entering our FOURTH year partnering with the Warren County School District for our Cyber Academy! This page gives you a really great "big picture" view of how it all works!

Here's how it works:

  • Students enrolled at Union City Area School District can opt to enroll in our cyber program after meeting with their guidance counselors, principals, and if applicable, IEP/504/GIEP teams, to determine if cyber learning is a good fit. They might have you complete a Union City Cyber Academy Enrollment Questionnaire to initiate important conversations about remote learning.

  • Once approved by those parties and the Director of Curriculum and Special Programs, the guidance counselor will work the student and family to develop a schedule of courses for that student. The 2024-2025 course list from Warren County SD is right here: Union City Cyber Academy/Warren County Virtual Services - 2024-2025 Course Offerings.

  • The family will be required to attend an orientation, during which the family will review and complete required, annual paperwork, which includes the 2024-2025 Union City Cyber Academy Handbook and Signature Page.

  • The student will be provided a Chromebook and charger from UCASD. Full-time cyber academy students are eligible to request a hotspot for internet access if needed; this is also provided by UCASD but must be requested directly through Mrs. Dell (sdell@ucasd.org) or our Business Office. These take a few days to come in, as we do not keep them in stock on our campus.

  • The student will be enrolled in classes taught completely by Warren County School District teachers, who are typically full-time online instructors who specialize in facilitating online content and working with students in a remote learning environment.

  • The student will work through content as his/her own pace, communicate with the Warren teachers, and turn in work and receive grades from those instructors. If you're curious what the Buzz Portal might look like or how the classes are organized, check out either of these videos: Elementary-Level Demonstration Video OR

  • The guidance counselor will monitor the student's progress on the Buzz Portal on a weekly basis and contact the student and/or his/her family if they see any concerns with progress or performance. Students who are struggling may have to work with their guidance counselors on an Academic Improvement Plan if they are not being successful. Students who aren't being successful may be required to return at the quarter/semester changes.

  • The Warren SD teacher will communicate with the UCASD team if they have any questions, concerns, or needs, as well. They are very involved in the processes, can communicate directly with families, and are able to work with our guidance team for added supports.

That's how it works! Cool, right? You can learn more by clicking on the various tabs here on our Cyber Academy page and reach out to your guidance counselor or Mrs. Dell if you're interested in learning more!
