January Student of the Month
6th Grade - Kolton Weber, nominated by Mr. Shrout- "Kolton came to the office the other day to share that he was concerned that a 9th grade student on his bus was being bullied and doesn't have any friends. He said that he is going to sit with him and be his friend. This was a very kind thing for Kolton to do."
7th Grade - Michael Powell, nominated by Ms. Ross- "Michael is a very hard worker. He is always helpful to his peers and his teachers. He takes accountability for his choices and doesn't complain about the consequences."
8th Grade - Jazlyn Bridgham, nominated by Mr. Shrout- "Jazlyn stepped up in a big way for the Mats for Mar event. We needed someone to sing the National Anthem and she agreed to sing with Mrs. Murphy and Mr. Fulton and a student from Fort Leboeuf at the event. They all did an amazing job and received many compliments from people in the crowd. We are very proud of you Jazlyn!"
Shark Tank: Students in Mrs. Knauff’s 8th grade Social Studies classes are giving their final presentations in their Shark Tank activity. Students have been working in groups to come up with a concept, develop it into a product, market and advertise it, and make a sales pitch to the Sharks in the Shark Tank. This activity has taught the student a lot about entrepreneurship and teamwork.
After School Clubs: After school clubs have been taking place in the Middle School for the better part of the school year. Students can participate in as many clubs as they would like to. This idea was brought about to give the students who are not participating in school sports an opportunity to participate in activities and develop social connections with peers.
Career Mock Interviews: Mrs. Ireland’s 8th grade career class completed mock interviews with Mr. Anthony and I this month. Students had to prepare their resumes and interviewing skills as they will soon be entering the workforce. Students were then scheduled for interviews in the office with either Mr. Anthony or me. After the interview we provided feedback to them on how they did and how they can continue to improve their interviewing skills. We received great feedback from the students anh they found the activity to be very beneficial.
